Adventure Stories

Well, this isn't much of an adventure story except for the fact that we would not have found this great eatery if our reservation agent at mammothrentalbyowner.com had not mentioned it us.

So for great eats check out story.

Our family was in Mammoth a month ago for our annual summer vacation. What a great place. I wanted to share a surprise we came upon by accident. On our way back from Tioga Pass, where we had been hiking all day with the kids (at the junction of Tioga Pass and HWY395 just before Lee Vining) we pulled into to the Mobile Gas station for some gas and the kids were hunger and wanted a snack. Much to our surprise we came upon a fabulouse restaurant in the Mobile Mart Gas Station. The menu was extensive, the food was GREAT and the atmosphere was casual and very comfortable. There was indoor and outdoor seating. We sat outside and enjoyed the view and the kids got to run around on the grass. This is NOT your typical gas station, in fact it is far from it. Anyway, the place was packed obviously everyone else knew about this fantastic restaurant in the Mobile Mart . We also found out that they have live music on certain nights and as we had 4 days left of our vacation we decided to make the drive from Mammoth back to the Mobile Mart for diner the next night as the band would be playing. Well, it was worth the 30min drive from Mammoth to have great food (we think it is the best in Mammoth) , entertainment, a view and lots of room for the kids to run and play while my husband and I enjoyed a beautiful evening, wonderful food and great music. I'm getting ready to fix dinner at home and it reminded me of the wonderful experience we had at a gas station, the Mobile Mart Gas Station, and how I wished I could be there right now. I never would have guessed I'd be writing about a wonderful dining experience at a gas station, go figure. I guess small wonders never cease. If you go you will not be disappointed :)

Getting to Mammoth

Mammoth is just that Mammoth. The mountain offers so much to so many all year long and the nice thing is, it's easy to get to. Unlike many other mountain resorts that require driving up winding roads and slow traffic. Mammoth is an easy highway drive with 2 lanes in each direction most of the way. The roads are straight and traffic usually cruises at 65-75mph.
Put your car in cruise control and sit back before you know it you will be in Mammoth.

Ice Skating

What a blast!! Ice skating at the new outdoor ice rink in Mammoth. It's tucked back behind the library and easy to miss if you are not a local. The rink is well maintained and a great place to take the kids to work of extra energy they might have.

Its a fun activity and being outdoors lets you experience the changing weather. Then there is night skating which is a blast also. The air is cooler the stars are out and there you are enjoying it all.

If you want to experience a wilder side of ice skating you can try June Lake. When the lake is frozen you can see the locals on the lake skating. I personally am not comfortable with this as the ice is not groomed and falling is a reality that I don't want to deal with. Also I'm not too keen on the idea of falling through the ice if it is not frozen completely. Call me a fair weather ice skater if you will. In any case, depending on your comfort level ice skating is fun for all ages especially for adults as I think it brings out the kid in all of us. You find yourself laughing, relaxing and having fun.
